Assertive skills are required to communicate effectively to ensure a safe work environment and the best outcome for both staff and clients.

Course Content

Research data over the years has indicated poor communication between nurses and doctors was one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in hospitals! It has been identified that some nurses can be reluctant to call physicians, even with a deteriorating patient. Despite the research evidence, there has not been adequate training to empower nurses to learn techniques or procedures for assertiveness.

Establishing clear boundaries demonstrates self-respect, which is vital to mental health. Utilising assertiveness skills increases confidence and creates more self-value and self-esteem.

The presenters will demonstrate two skills which are described as procedures that can be learned to increase personal well-being and power. When a person finds it difficult to set limits or boundaries with others, such as the inability to say or manage disrespect from others, it leads to anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed and stressed.

The procedures being displayed in this webinar are the Grey Rock and Broken Record techniques. These are two vital tools you can learn and use to assist you with challenging situations both at home and at work.

A major part of communication is non-verbal, and in this webinar, the presenter will demonstrate assertive body language and differentiate between passive aggression, aggression, and assertiveness.
